GET OUT THERE

How do we know what to do with our lives? What are decisions based on? If we’re not making a choice between right or wrong, how much do our choices matter? These are some of the questions I’ve been discussing with young people lately . . . especially Christian young people who seem to have received a few different philosophies on how to make choices. So let me add to the confusion by expressing what I think on this topic:

- Discipline yourself to know God
- Serve Him and do what is right where you’re at
- Risk, try stuff and make mistakes – don’t wait until you’ve got everything lined up or figured out to start something
- Discover your strengths, gifts and abilities and then develop them and use them like crazy
- Follow the desires of your heart – don’t think you need to deny all of what you want to do
- Ask God for Wisdom and Peace to guide you
- Don’t use your convictions to manipulate others or situations

This isn’t a magic formula and much more could be added to this from others, but I’ve found that those who do this will get out of the boat I like to call “the mundane status quo” and move into a life of meaning that makes a difference.
