CHINA

Over the last month, the amazing country of China has caught my attention like never before. It might be that about a month ago I landed a contract with a China company recruiting teachers for them . . . check it out at http://www.cieochina.com/ . Send in your application to teach in China today! (I have no shame – I’m a marketer and a capitalist)

With the Olympics coming up, China is regularly being profiled on the news. Everyone waits to see what’s going happen the next time the torch pops up in the torch relay. The recent Tibet incident had people questioning China once again regarding human rights. We watch how our government is going to handle their relationship with this massive country. Australia’s Prime Minister speaks fluent Mandarin (good vote by our Aussie friends!) The economic force of this country and their growing middle class has global ramifications. They have become Australia’s largest trading partner.

Yesterday in the mail was my National Geographic which devoted the whole issue to China . . . I don’t know when they’ve done that before. I think the editor of NG, Chris Johns, sums it up well when he writes about this issue: “China can overwhelm. The shock of its growth reverberate in every corner of the globe. That’s what this issue is – a map to help readers navigate the terrain of exuberance and the anxiety that is China today.” I’m looking forward to sitting down and pouring over every bit of this new issue.

China is what it is and I look forward to visiting and exploring this great country in the near future and learning as much as I can about it. What an adventure!
