Doing Teams Well - It's Critical!

I was talking with a friend today who is a professor at a local college about leading teams of people on mission trips. We were talking about the purpose of Global Team Design and that its purpose was to give people the tools to lead teams well. There is a lot of teaching and training about the purpose, meaning, reasons, attitude, motivation, philosophy, and why people should go and do a trip. This is a major component of the trip, but equal to it is setting the trip up well . . . or the mechanics of the trip. This includes things like safety, logistics, leadership, roles, management and administration. It’s the part that’s not so fun. It’s administrative. But just like any visionary that has a good idea, it won’t get anywhere without budgeting, planning, good structure and strategy. Administration might not always be the most glamorous part of making something work, but it’s essential. It’s important that people go and experience and be a part of what’s going on around the world – but do it well. With the serious issue of the Korean hostages in Afghanistan currently taking place – it is a reminder that teams need to take safety and security extremely seriously. In this case it's people's lives at stake - as well as the relatiosnhip between two countries. That said, our prayers are with the hostages that the get released soon.
